My main focus is Sax and Bass:
Still play Bb Clarinet; I tend to focus mainly on Xmas music and yes I still read music.
Bb Tenor Sax; Jazz, Blues, Pop, Country and Jazz Rock. One of my favorites is to sing old standards with the Sax. Bummer, no room for Sax in Bluegrass...
4 String Bass; (acoustic and electric) Bluegrass, Country, Blues, Pop, Punk, Rockabilly, Rock and experimenting with Jazz Rock. Sorry, stuck to Tab on strings.
6 String Acoustic Guitar; 2nd Player, Bluegrass, Country, Folk, Pop, Blues, Rock.
6 String Electric Guitar; OK this is my latest venture. I was asked if I could do some twangy fills. I had picked up a 1972 Tele Thinline downstairs at the Street Fair that I was going to flip, so I said, “I think so”. Well OK, I can do a little Country Twang, and some blues. I’ll keep working on that a bit.
12 String Acoustic; Haha, I got one...
Vocals; I do voice over work and sing. Country, Folk, Bluegrass, Old Standards. I am a Tenor with an on demand falsetto crack, that will you want to hand me a tissue.
1972 I started Playing Clarinet in 3rd grade with the President Avenue Elementary School Orchestra. I followed that by taking band at Fleming Junior High, continuing with Clarinet. My music knowledge started to ramp up when I started High School. Then attending Nathaniel Narbonne High School, my softmore year I played Clarinet in the Orchestra and Baritone Sax in the Jazz Stage Band. My Junior year I dropped Orchestra and focused on Saxophone even started Harbor Junior College Music program. I was playing 2nd Alto in the Jazz Stage Band. My senior year was really cool. Robby, who was 1st Tenor graduated. So I stepped into the position. Robby would come back often as a guest player and worked with me on my gravel tones and altissimo notes. Life goal of the time was to learn to play Yakety Sax. The goal was accomplished! After high school I moved to Templeton California and lived on a couple of Ranches and then ending up at LaSales Raw Milk Diary. That is where I meet this guy John. John was needing a room and I had an extra, so John became my roommate. I wasn’t really playing much. A few little gigs in San Luis Obispo, but I really wasn’t excited with woodwinds living in Cowboy Town. John was a Musician and into this Bluegrass Music, I was really into listening to Country at the time, so this is where it got interesting. John is a fantastic Mandolin, Banjo, Guitar, Stand-up Bass and Peddle Steel Guitar. I have always thought Bass was cool and it seemed pretty simple as a Background Bass Player. So I bought a Bass after selling my Triumph T140 Bonneville. We would have the coolest BBQ ever playing Bluegrass Music on the back porch. I eventually started playing Guitar and sold my Sax for a Washburn Guitar. John and I would travel to Bluegrass Festivals all over the state having some of the best times of my life. I moved back to Los Angeles and didn’t really play much, however in 2006 I took some time off from my life and got back into music and grabbed a chance in the Motorcycle industry. It has been a fantastic alliance! 2008 I started doing small sessions and now to date, I am having the time of my life ;-)~
